Friday 28th October

This week after numerous issues with Unreal Engine and the VR headsets, My progress on my door had come to somewhat of a stand-still. My door has its physics enabled and has the ability to move around a hinge when force is applied, however I needed to work out a way for the user to apply force using their hands. Rather than bashing my head against a wall and trying to work out how to do this, I decided to take a week to research the different ways I could go about this, even if those ways involved starting from scratch. My main idea I wanted to work out was how I can add collision to the controllers so the user can push the door open, however my limited knowledge of how the VR template we were using's blueprints worked was causing issues for me. I researched numerous different ways of creating a door, and made a plan of what I wanted to do, which involved starting from scratch, so I could implement collision to the players hands. This week I also made a small start on a lever, by roughly creating the shape of it and using a physics constraint again to allow it to rotate on one axis. The goal for next week is to add collision to the hands which will finally give me a basic working door, a secondary goal is to work more on the lever, by allowing the user to interact with it, preferably by grabbing and pulling it.
